I have found it my great honor to pray for you all as I have been reading through the requests on my last post. Thank you for both being a part of my life and allowing me to be part of yours.
----------------------------
Mr. Linky had a big day on Monday here on my blog. He pooped out so I took him down for a time out. When he was ready to behave, I let him back on my blog. Once he was back on, I picked linker number 777 because seven is my favorite number. The winner happened to be Rachel. Congrats, my dear! You win the charm necklace! Go ahead and get in touch with me and I'll hook you up.
I so hope that all of you first timers really enjoyed Not Me! Monday and will be participating again. I already have quite a list going for next week.
Sigh.
----------------------------
If you follow me on Twitter or read my Tweets on the sidebar of my blog, then chance are you already know that three of my favorite all time foods are hummus, tabouli and brownies. Since I really shouldn't eat brownies because they're terrible for me, I don't want to encourage you to, either. Instead, I am going to share with you about how to make the other two. Because, seriously, yum.
Hummus
1 16 oz can of chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans)
the liquid from said can of chickpeas
4 tablespoons lemon juice (or lime if you want to get crazy)
1 1/2 tablespoons tahini (sesame seed paste: unless you're really crafty, you'll probably just want to buy rather than make this)
2 crushed garlic cloves
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
Dump all of the ingredients into your blender. Or set them in nicely, whichever you'd rather. Blend into a nice paste. Serve immediately with fresh, warm or toasted pita bread, as a spread on a sandwich (I especially love it with tomatoes and cucumbers on toast with fresh basil) or cover and refrigerate.
I use hummus for our MSC almost exclusively as a dip for fresh veggies. They love it and will eat insane amounts of fresh carrots simply for the love of the hummus.
You can also just buy hummus in plastic tubs at the grocery store. Double yum. There are endless varieties. Life is short. Try them all.
Tabouli
2 cups bulgar
2 cups hot water
1 diced cucumber
2 chopped tomatoes
1 cup chopped green onions
1/2 cup fresh chopped mint
2 cups fresh chopped parsley
1 minced clove garlic
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon pepper
2 teaspoons salt
Soak the bulgur in the hot water until the water is absorbed, about 30 minutes. Drain any excess water and put bulgur in a medium bowl. Add all other ingredients. Mix well. Serve chilled.
Yum.

Never heard of bulgar. And I don't really consider myself a city girl. :)
Thanks for praying for us. I have enjoyed praying for the person above me. Now I want an update! LOL
Yummm.
Thanks for the recipes! :]
Love hummus! I'll have to make this soon. :) Thanks.
Thanks for the recipes! We love eating both of those in our house, but just always buy it already made! Now I can do it myself - my husband will be so proud :-)
Definitely YUM!!!!!
yummy!
um, what is bulgar? :\ i need a visual aid for the 2nd picture, please!
Those are two of my favorite eats as well. Try dipping hummus is apple raspberry dressing. It's really, really tasty!
I hope I'm not the only reader that wants to ask, WHAT DOES TABOULI look like??????
c'mon MckMama... give us a pic :)
If you add chocolate and sushi to the list you'd have all my favorite foods! Thanks for sharing.
Love both those things. Thanks for the recipes! I will definitely be trying them.
Thanks for the Recipes! My favorite is Cracked Red Pepper Hummus! I am new to posting but have been following and praying for your entire family for several weeks. Thank you for sharing your devotion with us!
I had to comment since I might actually make the top 10! Thanks for the recipes. I LOVE Hummus but have never actually made it myself.. might have to try that!
Thanks! My kids LOVE hummus, well except Owen, so that would actually be, my KID LOVES hummus! I'll try the "make it myself" method. As far as the Bulgar Wheat.. NO IDEA what that is, but I bet my dear store Trader Joes will know.
Did I already say THANKS?!
Andrea
We LOVE hummus too! Veggies, pita bread, crackers ... it doesn't matter. Everything tastes better when you can dip it in something tasty.
The kids will love making some for sure. Thank you for the recipe!
There are things in both of those recipes that I have never heard of. I may just have to google them. :) Thanks for the recipes. I may have to try the hummus for my daughter. She is big on dipping... everything.
Yummy, thanks for sharing...and thank you for opening up a prayer post.
Have a good night.
But seriously, how did your kids develop a taste for hummus in the first place?? I have tried all I can think of to trick, dupe, cajole, encourage and negotiate my kids into eating it and I finally admitted defeat.
Ahh well, all the more for me.
Lisa-Jo
I am fo sho' gonna make the hummus. I buy it all the time. It is probably wayyy better homemade. thanks for you prayers :) love the pic of Small Fry...too cute!
love and blessings from ga~erin
HA.. I just saw the links for Bulgar wheat. Looks like steel cut oats... although probably nothing like it. I'll have to let you know how my taboli (did I spell that right) turns out. I'm feeling adventurous!!!!
Thanks so much! I love hummus and taboli!!! I worked at a place called Nature's Table Cafe and they are on the healthy side and I ate that alot there and feel in love with them both!!!!! I love that picture of Small Fry.
Love ya,
Lauren
(I guess I don't need to say green-shirted friend, huh?? LOL)
Cool! Never heard of it, but neat :) I love me some hummus
I seriously need an intervention concerning my intake of tabouli! I am 29 weeks preggo and have consumed more than enough plastic tubs full of yummo tabouli than my fare share from whole foods! Your providing a recipe helps not only good 'ol momma earth, but a very tabouli driven unborn babe. My offspring thanks you!
I too have an insane love for hummus... and avocado. I swear you can put those two on just about anything! :)
Britt
I wish I knew you email - I just read your last post and have a great need in my life just now but can't share it because of others who may read (probably do read) your blog.
I have to sign anonymously but am desperate for prayer and a real hug.
I buy humus for us all the time. My daughter LOVES to dip her veggies in it. We had that for snack today.
Always wondered how to make it and so now I will have to try.
Thanks for the recipes!
I haven't heard of either of these things. Guess I'll stick to Hidden Valley Dressing!
I'm so glad you are home, and that Stellan is looking so good. All your kids look good!
I absolutely love your blog and following you on twitter. I am just starting to get into blogging myself (http://yahres.blogspot.com/) and would love to learn more from someone like you, but I know you have your plate full with a million other things so I'll just continue to follow you and learn as I read.... I do have a question though. I thought I saw a twitter post a few days ago that you were going to write a blog post about how to take blurry background photos? I'm so anxious to read about this!! Your photos are all amazing. I just don't understand how you can get four kiddos to always look their best when my two boys will NOT smile at the same time for a photo. Any idea when this will be posted? Or do you have any easy way I can find old photography posts of yours?
I have never had either one... I might just have to try them! Who doesn't just love love love garlic!!! I was sold! :) Thanks for sharing!
I've had the ingredients for months now. I just can't seem to make myself make it. I know I'll either love it and eat it all myself or hate it.
OOh! I love recipes!! I just enrolled in school to become a health counselor :) These are right up my ally....even though I love brownies too! But I love that you encouraged the healthier recipes instead!!
I think I may have to try the hummus recipe. I love hummus!
Thanks for the hummus recipe. I just got home from a trip to the store just to get hummus. It's been my number one pregnancy craving this time. I can't wait to try to make it at home!
LOOOOVE hummus. Thank's for the recipe. Also, thanks (for your Feb post - hodgepodge-African) that included a picture of hummus being used as a dip for raw green beans. That's now my new fav!!
ok when I just read your post I have to say..when I brought you a meal while you were at BCH I really didn't know your favorite foods were humus, tabouli and brownies...when I read it I thought, ohhh geeez. I bet she thought I was some crazy stalker. I just got lucky I guessed right! I did remember hummus, but the brownies and the tabuli were a shot in the dark. :-)==Amie
You say you hate to cook. May I suggest you subconsciously love it? Here's the thing. You may not love cooking, but you ARE a cook. You say you hate recipes, but real cooks (like you) dream up their own amazing foods and recipes. Now THAT'S a cook! Ha. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in for good measure. :D
P.S. I LOVE to cook, but does following a recipe and getting a good result make me a good cook? Hmm.
Okay, now that I have seen what is actually in hummus...maybe I'll give it a whirl.
I was loving being naive though.
mmmmmm! My mouth is watering over that hummus! I love hummus. Thanks for sharing your recipes. And I may have to try this Tabouli you speak of, though I have never even heard of bulgar. I may just have to go on a search for it here in the armpit of the south.
About the brownies, thanks for not sharing your recipe. They are a severe severe weakness of mine!
What delicious Vegan meals. Got any others?
I've tried hummus at a local Indian restaurant a block from where I work, but it didn't really speak to me. The naan bread was great, but the hummus was... a little outside my comfort zone. That being said, I'd be willing to try yours someday!
Bulgar wheat is a staple in our house, I can't imagine salad without it. I don't make tabouli salad, per say, although I love it... I just make my own salad, make my own balsamic vinaigrette, throw in obscene amounts of bulgar wheat, then whatever we have around... unsalted sunflower seeds, baby spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, green/red/yellow peppers, more tomatoes, more bulgar wheat, chives, crushed boiled eggs, herbs, a touch of garlic, and whatever!
I could live on that stuff.
As for "Anonymous", there is an email link on the left sidebar. Praying for you -- God knows your needs!
Mmm huumm, girl! I've been craving hummus for like a week now because you keep talking about it. Finally drove into Chattanooga (a 40 min drive) to get some because no one sells it out here in the sticks!
your recipes sound absolutely YUM! i will be trying them!! Thanks :)
I've been waiting for this post!
Thanks for praying!
We eat tabouli with stuffed grape leaves. My girls love the grape leaves! The taboulie, not so much. I think the parsley is a little strong for them.
You learn something new every day around here! Add bulgar to my new knowledge of various medical terminology, and my vocab has been upped by like 10 whole words!! : ) I'm looking forward to making (encouraging) my kids to give the hummus a whirl.
PLEASE PRAY-
My 6 year old daughter has been very sick since Sunday. She really has no symptoms except she is very tired and has been running temps as high at 104.1 (YIKES)! We have been to the dr twice, the last time tonight. They have done strep tests, urine tests, etc... They can only guess it is a virus.
The dr tonight said that if she still has a temp on Friday they are going to do blood-work and chest x-ray, etc...
My husband is out of town, my mom is out of town....ugh! I have a friend who is helping but it is tough to have this mystery illness to worry me constantly...
Please pray for little Ally...thank you!
I had hummus once and thought it tasted like sand. Of course, I don't like garbanzo beans either, so that may explain it!
I wanted to thank you for posting about Aidan Fredette. I looked back on your blog and did not see the actual post, but I saw that someone went to his blog from yours, so thank you. God is working miracles on Aidan!!! (prayersforaidan.blogspot.com)
Yay for Hummus and Tabbouli! I've been making them myself regularly since I moved to Florida. There were lebanese and mediterranean food options Ga-lore in my old hometown, but here they are not so plentiful, so, homemade it is. And I'm lovin it! I'm going to try my hand at falafel next.
I also love bulgur as a breakfast cereal. With a little cinnamon, honey, and milk... Divine.
hummus! yummus! oh geez! did i really type that?? :) i'll have to try to make it. i too am only a purchaser.
My husband's family is Lebanese and use bulgar to make Kibbe (except they call it bittahul or something that sounds like that). They also like/make Hummus and Tabouli. Hummus never has appealed to me, but your recipe sounds good. I think it's the garlic... yum! Thanks for sharing!
yumm-o! that sounds good! i like to try losts of different things so you can be sure i will try these!
How is Mr. Stellan doing since he got home?
Shelby
That's it. I HAVE to try hummus. It sounds yummy. And Smally Fry wears it so well!
I am making the Tabuli(oh my yum!). I LOVE it and have wondered how to make it at home. Thanks!
Love me some hummus too. Roasted Garlic is my fave!
I have never eaten hummus but I am definitely going to give it a try. Thanks Mckmama!
Ever since you tweeted about Hummus, I was curious... hoping you'd post the recipe. Thank you!!
Sounds Yuck! lol
ooh tasty recipes. I love tabouli and hummus. Hummus is super easy to make with dried garbanzo beans too. I just throw garbanzo (or any other beans) beans in the crockpot and cook them on low overnight or during the day. It's a bit cheaper and has less sodium :) For those breastfeeding the parsley supposedly can make your milk supply decrease. Not sure if it's true but in case you have a drop in your milk supply the parsley may be the culprit.
Happy Eating!
Ahhh...I see we share some of the same favorite foods!
sounds delicious, even worth the garlic breath! lol
Thanks for the hummus recipie! My husband and I just discovered that we love it! And, with carrots too!
Two of my favorite foods on EARTH!!!!!
I nearly lived on tabouli in college. Now I make hummus much more, though. I read once that you can use regular peanut butter instead of tahini... and you can! I love tahini, but don't use it all that often, so it would end up getting rancid. The PB gives it the same nutty flavor but I always have it on hand. Try it out if you ever run out of tahini! Also, I usually include parsley, mmm. But once I bought cilantro instead so I used that, added a dash of chili powder and cumin... voila! Tex-mex hummus. :)
Thanks MckMama! I have been looking for a hummus recipe all over the internet but I haven't been trusting enough to try a random one. So thankyou! I have been eating so much hummus recently (with pita and carrots but my favourite is broccoli!) and wanted to make some to save some money and also you have inspired me to eat a more healthy diet and one day, when I have MSC of my own, to teach them to eat better and more naturally (no preservatives). So thankyou!
Also...thankyou for inspiring me to trust God. It's something I am ashamed to say that I struggle with. I hope and pray that certain things will or will not happen, when really, I should trust His decision. The new motto in my life, that I got from your blog (that I think you got a from a friend) is: God has no plan B, this is His plan A. I probably reworded it, but the message is the same. Whatever is happening is happening because He wants it to be, and every day I will remind myself of this. So thankyou (again) for you and your faith have changed my life.
I will continue to pray for you and your family and the other families of the blogs that I now read because of you, who also need our prayers.
Eliza
Yeah.. yum! They're favorites here, too.. along with couscous, avocados, mango, and asparagus. Sweet corn and strawberries are outrageously cheap AND delicious right now, too. Life is good. VERY good. And I mean that.
I've pretty much mastered the hummus thing, but homemade Tabouli is new to me....can't wait to try your recipe!
By the way, I have some wicked grits recipes if you ever need a new one. That's what us Southern girls are good at!
We also had couscous for dinner... it was yum! And M looks adorable with her hummus-covered face. Love it!
Perfect! You read my mind, i was wanting to ask what recipe you used for hummus!
Hummus has always been one of my favorite "dippers", but, I love beans, grains, hum, now I am getting hungry :) Thanks for a neat post and am SO glad you and Stellan are back home where you belong....
My uncle (by marriage) is from Lebanon, and he makes KILLER tabouli. I could eat that stuff all day long...and I'm right there with ya on the brownies *wink*
I loveeeee hummus. LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! Never had Tabouli!!! Looks like something to try!!!!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for you hummus recipe!! I can't wait to try it!
Thanks for your recipes! I've never tried either one but will attempt to...! :)
Thanks for the awesome recipes! I love your blog and am SO glad that Stellan seems to be thriving. God is good.
WCF
hummus is yummmmmy! Never tried the other though.
Thanks for the recipes.
If you really just need a brownie then visit me. I have some to die for.
I was wondering what setting or camera you use to get such awesome pictures of your kids! I love the fuzzy background and focused child.
Today is National Nurses Day... lets take a moment and thank the Lord for the nurses who took such wonderful care of Stellan in the hospital.
Thank you to all the nurses out there who selflessly work to make the lives of the sick a little brighter.
That's the exact hummus recipe I use, too! We love it! I like to go a little heavy on the tahini(just because I love it!) and light on the olive oil. So good.
I don't know if you make your own flat bread or not, but I just found this recipe for whole wheat flat bread that has you just roll out the dough onto a baking sheet and bake it in the oven. It's really good and takes almost no time. It's right here http://www.recipezaar.com/Whole-Wheat-Flat-Bread-89065 in case you're interested.
I made your cranberry couscous the other day and it was yummy. I added some chicken for extra protein and it worked out well.
Keep the recipes coming!
Still praying for you guys and especially Stellan!
I might just be the only person alive to have never tried hummus but everybody raves about it. Tomorrow, for starters, I might buy some while at the grocery store. If I like it, I will make my own according to your recipe.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE hummus!!
i actually have some in the fridge right now!!
my 3 year old gobbles it up w/baby carrots, cucumbers, crackers or warm pita :o)
and your sandwich tip -- that's a regular in our household!!
can we see a picture of the tabouli?? sounds yum...although, the mint has me intrigued?
thanks mckmama!!
You are right. Hummus is the best. We love to eat at Leo's Greek Castle in Little Rock, Ar. They made it to order. It is awesome. I've eaten tabouli as well. Wonderful stuff.
I have a dear friend who is my mother-in-law's physical therapist. His 10 year old daughter is fighting leukemia and having a really rough time. Please pray for Michaela. I love this prayer chain!!! God bless us who use the internet for His glory.
These are my hubby's favorite brownies. They sooooo good AND healthy!
http://www.thesneakychef.com/free_recipe_brawny_brownies.php
WOw, you are JUST getting around to thanking the people that did sooo much for your family?!! And, just some cookies?? Umm, these people watched your kids, cooked meals, gave tons of money/gift cards, and the least you can do is give them some cookies???! Wow how BIG of you! you are really one selfish pig. And watch all those tubs of humuus and brownies. you certainly are no Aimee Freeman. She is stunningly GORGEOUS and should have a tv show, certainly not unattractive smelly you. ps, no one is fooled that you are really praying for all your readers. cause we know you arent.
you love BROWNIES- I think you NEED this recipe: http://wholesomegoodness.net/2008/05/30/a-healthier-brownie-gluten-free/
Thanks for posting the hummus recipe. You can't go wrong with hummus for kiddos!
Or we could just go for Chips and Rotel Dip! hee hee hee
{I swear (except I also don't) I'm not writing the bad comments near mine. I promise.}
I'm not so much seeing what's so terrible about brownies? Eggs, butter, (dairy), flour, chocolate - it sure does seem to have all the essentials. As you said, life is short. Don't give up brownies.
I love hummus and Bumkins bibs...looks like that is what small fry is wearing. I will never use another bib after switching to Bumkins...LOVE them! ;)
I love hummus too. I add one roasted red pepper to your exact basic recipe. Try it, it's great!!! (I also throw in one ground tablespoon of flax seeds because I try to get them into my diet whenever possible. Don't think it changes the taste any) I am going to try tabouli soon, sounds wonderful and healthy!
Those seem like great recipes. I have such a deep love for both of those foods, but I have had to cut out the Tabouli in the year, since i found out I have Celiac Disease. It has been difficult, but I eat more hummus to make up for it.
I was wondering if you had any recipes you recommend for homemade granola.
Thanks.
I gave up eating bulgurs in the second grade, but I could def. try the hummus. :)
???"Brownies not good for you"???? Say it isn't so..... Brownies YYYYUUUUMM!!
Glad to hear all is going well in the thawed tundra. Still keeping everyone in our prayers.
I LOVE hummus AND tabouli. FOREVER wonderful in my book!!!
Ya know I was wondering today exactly what humus was (thanks to an episode of Jon & Kate)... this has been a great answer to that and I think a definate must try...apparently its extremely healthy for ya.
oo question - If I used dry beans instead of canned how would I do it???
I have been eating tabouli for years and people always go "HUH??" when you say it. I love it on ritz crackers and on lettuce leaves. I just buy the bag of tabouli mix in the veggie aisle and add italian dressing and a bunch of cucumbers, tomatoes. I LOVE it.
Hummus is awesome!
Since I'm a college student I don't really get alot of time to cook (even though I absolutely love to). But hummus is so easy to make and super healthy too.
I always roast garlic with a little bit of olive oil before blending it in with the other ingredients. It gives such a deep flavour. Also try blending it with green onions. Its so yum!
DEAR MCKMAMA, THANK YOU FOR LETTING US POST ANONYMOUS AGAIN PRAYING FOR YOUR FAMILY PRAISING GOD FOR LETTING STELLAN GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOUR FAMILY MEANS TO US PLEASE PRAY FOR MY DAUGHTER JOLEA AS SHE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ANOTHER BABY. IM SENDING LOTS OF LOVE AND HUGS
♥ JANET
Mmmmmmmm, hummus! and yahooli for tabouli!
(Ah, it's late and I should be in bed)
Really, I love both of these, and of course brownies too. But I usually take the easy route and pick it up at Whole Foods Market, even tho both are pretty easy to make. Thanks for posting the recipes, I'm inspired to do homemade next time!
Sorry! Don't like hummus so much, but the tabouli sounds yummy! Will try it soon!
How did you know that I am NOT (ok, maybe just a little) addicted to Hummus and am searching for new recipes! Yummmmmm......
Thanks so much for the hummus recipe. It's been awhile since I've made any, but I was SOOO craving it today.
Oh, by the way, I have a new favorite dessert that you might enjoy.
Fresh fruit (I've made it with apple, banana, and strawberries), a chocolate sauce made from stirring cocoa powder and honey, and a dollop of unsweetened whipped cream. It's seriously wonderful!
my almost 18mo loves hummus, esp the roasted red bell pepper one. i actually just made it from scratch for the first time last week. i made a triple batch and spent maybe $4 and it made 4 1/2 cups, WAY cheaper than buying an 8oz container for $3.75
I am taking a huge leap of faith today. I am doing what you did going with my baby and leaving hubby and 2 kids behind for a better chance for her. Back in 1/08 we lost a son to HLH its a rare auto immune disorder. The docs acting as if we just had no chance of this happening again. So we had another baby on 3/29/09 she was home for 3 weeks almost and bacame sick we really didnt think it may be HLH we just didnt. Now she is showing some signs of possibly having this terrible disease. The only cure for this is a bone marrow transplant. We are praying to God for a Miracle and they are wrong. She is showing some signs of it, but some signs that it just cant be. The docters are thinking its brewing but just not sure. So I am going to the top doc in this field to get a second opinion. I dont know how long I will be gone and all i do is cry b/c I am so scared and sad b/c i just dont know when i will see my kids and hubby after this. Please pray for baby Madison she is such a strong baby and i am just scareed I really lost for words 90% of the time. PLease help me find the strength to get through this like you did please. Thanks for listening and most important thanks for praying.

Your hummus recipe is a lot like mine! Three small changes that you could make for a big taste difference is to take out the garlic, lemon and olive oil and replace those with sauerkraut juice (4 tablespoons), chopped green onion (about 3 stalks) and 2 ume plums (take the pits out first!). Just thought I'd share this variation since you eat so much hummus :) Let me know if you try it; it's delicious!
I have never been one to try new things... but I did try hummus a few weeks ago... it is strange yet good... don't think I'll make it though... chick peas are too ugly! lol. I'll settle for store bought!
Your recipes sound absolutely delicious. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. I hope that all is well with you and your beautiful family and know that you continue to be in our own prayers.
God Bless
♥Rachelle
I'm heading to the grocery to get ingredients for your hummus. I made your couscous yesterday, but substituted dried cherries for the cranberries (because that's what I had and...yum...dried cherries!). It was delicious and so easy! My almost 3 year old ate it up too! Thank you!
We love tabouli - and I make it almost exactly like that but we sometimes throw some feta in too - yummy...if you like feta.
I gobble hummus all the time too but for someone reason have never tried making it...I've been thinking about for years and I guess just been lazy...maybe I'll finally give it a go.
My Lebanese father-in-law recommends the Sabra label for purchased hummus because it has the most authentic taste. We like the pine nuts variety!
Happy eating,
Mansours
I've never tried tabouli but now that I've seen the recipe I want to try it. It sounds great. I have been buying hummus from the store but I'd love to try your recipe. I know I like the kind with roasted red pepper so I may throw one in.
Thanks for the recipes!!
LOVE both, have never made either.
Get excited!!
Yum! Now I want hummus, like right now! With carrot sticks, or maybe some green or red pepper. Too bad I'm at work.
Never heard of tabouli, but it makes me think "taboo" and bulgar just sounds wrong (vulgar?).
But, now I'm going to have to find some just out of curiosity, b/c I too cannot even picture what that would look like. I'm sure I would like it... it's food, right? Then I'd like it.
I recently tried hummus at our womens retreat for the first time and you are right awesome! Thanks for the opportunity to pray fro others and to get prayed for.
Oh YUM! I love hummus and tabouli and unfortunately brownieas as well. Thanks for sharing the receipes!!
With so many Mommy's being a part with McKMama, I wanted to pass something along to you all. It's called Pass It On Baby! http://passitonbaby.blogspot.com/2009/05/ready-setblog.html
One of my dear friends and a friend of hers have started this new concept and we are hoping it catches on! Do you have boxes/bags of your kids clothes from past seasons/sizes? Well here is something you can do with them to help others! They will match you with someone who needs your sizes, and you box it up and send it off to them with a little letter. Someone else will send you a box, and so on and so forth! Helping other Mommy's! LOVE IT! Check it out!!
What the heck is bulgur???
Seriously, do you ever just let your kids eat Goldfish?!?!
lol!
By the way, MckMama (yes, I'm the goldfish girl lol)
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!
Seriously you are. And you have beautiful children.
BEAUTIFUL
BEAUTIFUL
BEAUTIFUL
BEAUTIFUL
BEAUTIFUL
(that's a 'beautiful' for each one of your kids AND you)!
and if you had a tv show, I'D WATCH IT!
<3
I LOVE hummus!! I used to make it all the time! Then I got lazy and now sometimes I'll eat just a plain can of chick peas (drained) with a little Italian dressing on them! YUM!
I grew up eating garbanzo beans in a soup form, more like a cream ... they were not my favorite but my Mom always made sure I ate them b.c they were good for me :)
I've never heard of hummus 'til I moved to the U.S. For years I had no clue what it was, I tasted some at a party - it was the kind you buy at the store - and I really didn't care for it. I had some at a restaurant that one tasted a little better so now I'm curious to try your recipe. Now the 2nd recipe you post it never heard of it, don't even know where I could find bulgur ... doubt my super wal-mart will have it =)
I enjoy reading you so much!!
Have a blessed gorgeous day!!
Thanks for the recipe for Tabouli! My husband loves it and buys it from the deli...I think I'll try to make it because it doesn't seem that hard to do.
Good Morning! Loved the recipes and wanted to share a link to my absolute, forever, hands down, favorite chocolate chip cookie. I'm praying for your family! P.S. My daughter is going to be doing an internship at the Mayo Clinic this summer for 10 weeks.. We are from Alabama and my baby will be a LONG way from home! Please pray for her...

DEEEEEEEEEEEEELICIOUS!!! I want to make the tabouli tonight. Thank you for sharing!
Can we do a recipe swap through Mister Linky? I love him, when he's behaving. We could all post our best/most famous/most delicious/easiest weeknight recipes and then link them up with the recipe title as our Mister Linky title? For easy reference?
Just a thought. Could be fun?
You don't know me, but I could use some extra prayer. I am 28 wks pregnant (the baby is doing great). At my last scheduled doc apt I mentioned some soreness and itching in my breasts. Doc thought it was a breast infection and I have been on antibiotics, I went in again since it was getting worse. He then asked about my family history of cancer. My mom had breast cancer when she was 45. Today I have a breast sonogram to check for cancer. Please pray for my as I am feeling very overwhelmed and scared. Thank you!
love roasted red pepper hummus and toboli is a fav
yum yum yum. Hummus is a staple in our house. Any cousous recipes? ;)
I am Turkish and bulgur is an important part of our cuisine. We make another salad called "kisir" and also make bulgur pilaf which you can make plain or with veggies or meat and we have many other dishes.. bulgur is very nutritious and healthy. gotta love it! :)
MMMM...thanks!
How long does hummus keep in the fridge for???
Hey MckMama-
Never posted before, though I read and pray for Stellan faithfully! I love tabouli and hummus. Sometimes to make my tabouli more hearty, I throw in a can of rinsed garbanzos! Yummy!
Thanks for the yummy recipes. I'm going to finally buy some Nutella today for the first time. :)
You are precious.
xo
Yummy!! I have a new recipe for flat bread that I think I will make along with the Hummus!!
Thanks for sharing!!
We made this hummus this morning and it's so yummy! One question: do you refrigerate the tahini?
I am a brownie lover too and could eat half a pan in one sitting! One of my friends makes her brownies with black beans. She mixes the brownie mix with a can of black beans that have been pureed and bakes it just like that! No oil, eggs or water. I am too chicken to try that recipe though. I think I'm scared that it will forever change my love for brownies...which probably wouldn't be a bad thing! ;)

P.S. Don't pay any attention to that horrible comment from PTL. She is obviously a very bitter person and has no right to judge you like that. I think that cookies are a wonderful way to thank people. What does she expect you to do pass out hundred dollar bills or something? Maybe she needs some prayer for God to soften her harden heart.
Well, this is sad. I'm having an internal dilemma... I feel that I can't make tabouli because the number one ingredient, bulger, is FAR too close to the much-feared "booger". Sigh... I'll definitely try those brownies you mentioned, though... no boogers there...
LOVE tabouli, but have always made it from a package. Thanks!
I will have to give hummus another try...had a bad hummus experience early in life.

Hummus has always been something I've wanted to try. Maybe today's the day!
I love your blog- especially as it relates to your belief and expressions of faith in the Lord and His divine plan for each of us. I've started a new carnival called I Believe Thursday that is meant to be a collection of people's expressions of faith and belief in the Lord and values that we hold dear, such as honesty, integrity, family, etc. If you'd like to participate (or even just link up an old post to help get it started) here's the link: http://jennschmerer.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-believe-thursday.html
Thanks for your great example of faith MckMama!
Oh. My. Goodness.
Can I ever thank you enough for hooking me up with my new true love, Nutella??!!!
Dipped apple wedges in it - YUM.
Thanks for the recipes. I am really excited to try out the hummus recipe with some various flavor add-ins!
I'm glad you were able to let everyone know how Stellan is doing and how to pray. But, Oh how I've missed seeing and reading about your other kids!
Honestly, I don't cook except when I have to and I'm not interrested in trying new recipes unless they are a "5 minute meal." But that picture of small fry makes me want to try the recipe...if you ever have a cook book made, include that pic!
Do you know any good recipes for Buckwheat? My Russian adopted daughter loved to eat it in Russia, but I can's seem to cook it correctly, it comes out to mushy for her. Since we do not usually eat it, I'm not exactly sure how it is supposed to come out, maybe you have tried, or have a recipe? (I's whole grain buckwheat, not buckwheat flour.)
Thanks for the tabouli recipe! I had looked it up in your blog from awhile back, but this is a little more detailed for me:)
And I'm def. trying that hummus. One of my fav store bought ones is Trader Joe's White bean and basil. Yum! Have you ever used great northern white beans in place of chickpeas? You should try it!
SONG: Could you tell me the name and artist of the song on your photography website. The lollipop song that plays in gallery 1. It is great!
I love Small Frys bib! I can never find cute bibs. Love it! :)
have you every tried Palm Sugar, to make your brownies (or other baked goods that call for sugar)? It's actually good for you, and is the only refined sugar substitute I have found that bakes like real sugar... you can get it from this website:
https://www.navitasnaturals.com/products/coconut/palm-sugar.html
try it! i'm a healthy eating freak, too, and this stuff is great ;o)
Praying for Anonymous who is pregnant and being tested for breast cancer.
Knowing God is in the midst of your circumstance and loves you.
Love your blog MckMama:o)
Thanks for the sharing the recipes! My personal favorite recipe of yours is . . .buy a jar of Nutella, open, insert spoon, enjoy!!!!! I had never even heard of Nutella before becoming one of your stalker/wolverines and now we can't live without it!!!! You're the best!!!!

Yum. I have bulgar... I bought it at the Good Food Store (gotta love that name, huh) but I've not been brave enough to try my own tabouli... yet.
However, I want to make the hummus soon, because I think my kids will like it, too. Thanks! I love reading all of your "I Hate to Cook" posts! (...and, you crack me up.)
Question - about how many hours do you think you cook your steel cut oats in the crockpot for? I'm a little afraid to cook them all night!
So what's next, maybe a nutella recipe? Oh wait, you eat it with a spoon out of a jar... that would be a short post! ;)
We are hummus fans as well - when we moved from the west coast where it is everywhere to Canada in the middle of nowhere, I had to learn to make it. =) My oldest (who is 6) calls it tuna... my other three kids (age 5, 3, and 18 months) love to eat anything they can dip too. =) Anyway, I've been meaning to post for a while and had a quick minute. Thanks for your authenticity. We have been enjoying reading your blog since a month or so before Stellan went to the hospital. God bless you!
Adrianne - the song is Lollipop by Mika. He's great! You should hear Big Girls are Beautiful.
Don't know if anyone said this but hummus and feta cheese and cucumbers in a sandwich. Yum!
Also, years ago someone told me her daughter thought garbanzo beans looked like "baby butts." Have to say I agree!

My mom LOVES hummus, I'm not a big fan but I admit I'm hard to feed! I'm going to have to give her this recipe!!!

I LOVE HUMMUS! thanks for the recipe!
Have you ever tried the "Deceptively Delicious"* Brownies? They are made with spinach and carrot puree, so they are actually healthy. I thought they were good, but my 4 year old was not fooled.
Anyway, Happy Hummus!
Libby
*This is a book by Jessica Seinfeld (of Jerry fame)that features tons of ways to sneak pureed veggies into unsuspecting foods.
That's funny about your kids and hummus. In my experience, small children aren't fond of such strong flavors. My (very, very much younger sister) is 8 and won't touch garlic. She also hates peperoni. Who knew? She likes veggies very much, but shies away from anything with a tang.
We LOVE hummus in our home...our FAV is roasted red pepper...I have never tried to make it though so thank you for the recipe....and also I have heard of Tabouli but have never tried it will be making that as well ...I love to cook...so I am always up to trying new recipes...HUGS to the family I just got a new Nikon D60 and have been back tracking through your posts to get great tips from you take care and look forward to your updates...Traci
Hummus and tabouli ... very middle eastern. Was it try and see if you like it or is it in your ancestry? My husbands family is middle eastern and I love the food and the spices! His mom was 100% Italian, but taught me to cook Lebanese food like the rest of them. Very flavorful!
Hi MckMama!
Lebanese people everywhere thank you for sharing two great dishes. I love 'em both. (Well, brownies too. are they lebanese if I make them??) I'm happy so many people are learning about the joy that is hummus now. :)
Also, I love the prayer chain idea, and I'll offer mine up for all that need them.
I have to thank you for the Hummus recipe, I made it again today and tried it with my 5yr old son who has autism and he ATE IT!!!That is HUGE!!! He is very picky about everything he eats and he loved this! Not to mention that I loved it :)!! GREAT tasting! Thanks again!
Another way you can make the tabouli reciepe is with couscous. I love the tabouli too, and Hummis. For the couscous recipe just follow it like the tabouli recipe.
Have you tried a little bit of hummus stirred into your tabouli?? I made both today (your recipes) and it was SUPER DELISH together!!!!
Reasons I love reading McMama:
Super cute kids
Incredible Faith
Great photography
A son I suspect has the same name as my son
but the REAL reason I love McMama is that I think she can understand my belief that hummus makes the world go round!!
