Not Me! Monday

FURTHER UPDATED:

Mr. Linky problem fixed! I changed it to two columns. Can you guys see all the links now?

UPDATE:

I've been away from the computer literally all day (Having four children will do that to you, I'm learning.) and only just now realized that Mr. Linky has been acting up today. There is a third column that is not showing up for all of you. Your links are getting added (Read: No need to try to link more than once!) and I am working on this problem by contacting Mr. Linky himself, so if you link but don't see yourself, just sit tight. In the meantime you could try opening my blog in a different browser. That may help. I, for one, can see all three of the columns. I have a feeling that Kameron's comment might be right on, though: That leaving links with long names is messing up the columns. Maybe next week we'll have to have a character limit! I'll keep you posted...

Are you feeling ashamed for letting your child go to bed without brushing his teeth...again!? Did you eat a Snickers bar during a meeting without anyone knowing? Do you pretend that my Tweets are really urgent messages when you receive them on your cell phone? Are you feeling embarrassed that you kicked the dog? We'll don't be. Not Me! Monday was born out of a desire to admit some of our imperfections and reveal a few moments we'd rather forget.

Why?

Well, for one, because it's just plain fun to pretend that we really did not do the things that we actually so did do. And, two, because reading through great tales of other people's Not Me! Mondays each week is a great way to level the playing field. We're all human, we all take embarrassing shortcuts, and so we may as well show each other that we're all in good company!

It's alright, I'll go first and show you how it's done.

This past week, I did not get a hickey from nursing Stellan at night, when he missed the mark, and we were both too tired to realize it for some time. And even if I did, I certainly wouldn't blog about it! Nope. Not me!

Our bedside table does not look like command central, with baby monitors galore, cords and wires going this way and that, and no fewer than two small video receivers. When someone cries out in the night, Prince Charming and I most certainly do not spend at least 14 seconds trying to figure out exactly where the cry is coming from so that we can tell who is crying out.

This week, I did not seriously consider deleting the entire contents of my email inbox and starting from scratch. But, as tempted as I was to get back to a clean slate, where I am not so backlogged, I just could not do it! Honestly! I read every single comment, every single email, and every "@MckMama" on Twitter, and it pains me to not be able to personally greet each and every one of you each time in return. I guess I'll just have to hope that you guys know how much I love you and how much you mean to me even when my inbox is burgeoning with emails I've not responded to.

I have way bigger fish to fry in my life, so I definitely did not spend some time contemplating about just how long I'll be able to get away with putting Small Fry's hair up in a ponytail on the top of her head:

SmallFryClapsFringeDress

I did not positively get overwhelmed with offers of Miracle Blankets after my Tweets last night (You guys are great! So way better than Ebay or Craigslist.), and then fail to get back to most of you because I have come down with a rotten case of the intestinal flu. If you emailed me, you will hear from me soon! Stellan thanks you in advance. I'm getting the feeling that he doesn't like being wrapped in Ace Bandages that much.

And, there is absolutely no way that I urinated in an empty Subway cup yesterday, because there wasn't a bathroom in sight and there was no way I could hold my bladder until we got to one. I would neither do that, nor admit to doing that, and, even if I did, I certainly wouldn't chuckle because it reminded me about the time that I relieved myself in our car using three of Big Mac's diapers when he was a baby. Nope. Not me!!!

Won't you join my little blog carnival? You won't regret it! Please follow the rules carefully, so that no one gets hurt.

Happy Not Me-ing!!

As for the hair thing - I have pondered the same.exact.question...and was told by coworkers (school) that it just has to stop before Kindergarten...so we are set :) Pigtails and braids are ok until second (fyi).

I've never heard of someone urinating in a cup, or 3 diapers for that matter. I'm glad you've never heard of that either.

p.s. I can't believe I'm #4 this week. I must really have it together.

Ah....memories...Sunny D bottles were the container of choice in our vehicle. Not for ME, of course...for the boys. Heck, I'd never hit the mark using THAT!

As a result of said containers, we were constantly telling kids who got in our car, "NOOOOOOO! Don't DRINK THAT!!!!" Hahahaha....good times. :)

Sorry you're sick. You must be exhausted after all the emotional rollercoasters and lack of sleep when your precious baby was so sick. I hope he is MUCH better now. More importantly, take care of YOU (I know, I know it's pretty hard to do that in your situation) but try and rest at least. You and Stellan and the rest of your beautiful family are in our prayers every night. My little girl told me she lit a candle for him at our church yesterday. (She went with her Dad). I thought it was great that she remembered.
Blessings and good health to all in your house!

And about the peeing in the subway cup.. don't worry! You have to use what you have when you can't hold it. We've probably all done at some point. I know I have. I even popped a squat outside the mall behind a bush when I was about 7.

Hope you feel better soon.

PS - I used to be a missionary in Africa so can better your "items I have gone pee in" stories - but I will save those for another day. PS: Have you ever heard of the story where this guy and girl go on a first date, and they were on a long drive and she had to pee so bad, that they stopped the car and she got out to pee behind the car, when all of the sudden she realized her bum was stuck to the bumper because it was so cold out? The guy getting out to try and help her, ended up having to pee on the bumper to unstuck her? They ended up getting married.

I think that is such a funny story. Can't remember how I was told that story, and not 100% sure its a true story. Either way its a funny one to vision and be thankful that this didnt' happen to you. LOL

Feel better.

Just to make you feel better....last week during the icestorm here in Indiana. They shut down the interstate. My sister and her husband and three kids were stuck in unmoving traffic for four hours. When they had to go to the bathroom, my sister cleaned out a plastic container and put the potty seat on top of it. While her husband drapped the windows, she and her kids took turns going to the bathroom in the storage container with a potty seat on top. I could not stop laughing at this....I wonder what the other cars thought as they saw them emptying the container four times......yes, even my sister went in the container. Her six year old was mortified....by my sister said...oh this will be the icestorm of 2008 when you pee'd in a storage container.....to funny really......life....oh boy...hope you are feeling better soon......

Well if your not telling about urinanting in 3 diapers then I will certainly never tell the whole world that I used one of my sons diapers when my period started again unexpectedly and I had been out. That is something that only a crazy woman would do, Right?
I really do love reading all of the things that you and other do not do. It really does make me feel better on nights like tonight when I also did not reward my kids with Happy meals just because they were amazingly well behaved today.

ok...the peeing in the cup was funny, but in diapers? that is hilarious! You must have awesome control to be able to stop midstream and change out diapers....i'm guessing that's how you did it. Not that I really want to know!

I remember my sister use to wear a ponytail on top of her head . She would ask my mom to make a fountain!!

The diaper story reminded me that my oldest daughter(7 years older than her sister) used her sister's diapers to potty in a few times. Lessons learned the hard way on the urine capacity of a size 2 diaper!!!!

Hope you are feeling better soon.

#92-Not Bad!

Had to share something that has 'changed my life'! I keep a plastic throwaway cup in my car so when the little guy has to 'pee-pee-potty', all I have to do is unstrap him and let him pee in the cup in the warm car with no on-lookers. Totally easy!

Of course, this might pose a problem if you had a girl. Then you might need to try MckMama's diaper approach.

Too tired to do a not-me; from our own RSV hospital experience and all. But I had to tell you that I've never told anyone except maybe my best friend about peeing in a towel inside a plastic trash bag on my way home from college on Thanksgiving break from NY to NH. I was in my little VW bug, late at night in the dark, and there was a blizzard going on, and 18wheelers jackknived all over the highway .. no way I could stop ... all the exit ramps had over 6 " snow and I was afraid to leave the road or even to pull over to the side - and I had no food or water and was freezing already, so getting stuck wasn't a good option (I am pretty sure I had no heat). No, I remember ... if I turned the heat on, I choked on the gasoline smell that entered the car! So no idea how I ever did it, but I managed, while driving. In the blinding blizzard and the freezing car. All these years later, you do Not-Me's like this ... I could have admitted it years ago and felt so much better! Instead, I snuck the bag into the laundry room and did laundry first thing!

Nice to know I have a use for carrying around diapers when someone outgrows them! :)

I dreamed about you and your family today during a two+ hour nap. Apparently you have all boys, you know four of them, and you dress Small Fry up like a girl, though she is really a boy and in the dream you were wondering how long you would be able to get away with it. Bizarre! Thankfully Small Fry is really a sweet little girl!

And don't tell anyone, but I once peed in a starbucks cup (sorry starbucks) when stuck in traffic on an interstate. If you gotta go. Ya gotta go.

Funny about peeing in the cup AND the diapers! I've never been able to bring myself to pee into anything in the car, BUT I have had my son pee into an empty water bottle.

I'm SO glad "Not Me!" was back this week! Too bad we missed the one's from packing for your trip because of Stellan's illness. I am SOOOOOOO glad he's home again and recovering.

Happy Monday!

Glad it's back! Have a great week : )

Hope you feel better! Yay for Not Me! Monday! Your Not Me's are too funny. I'm with you on the command central thing...we don't even have kids yet & my husband is already contemplating how he can set up a video network/baby monitoring system throughout our house; I can't even imagine what he's going to come up with!

Carla said...

You reminded me of the time I was pregnant with Gavin, and I was in the parking lot of speech therapy with my daughter. I had to pee soooo bad, so I did not pee in a cup inside my car, dump it out the car door on to the concrete and then leave quickly hoping no one saw. Ahhh the things we don't do when we are desperate!

So sorry you are sick, I hate the stomach flu with all my might and hope it passes from all of you quickly!

(((Hugs)))

mhcowen said...

Thank you for your pure honesty. I've been reading and praying for several months now and blessed along the journey...tonight I was SO not reminded of when I drank a gallon of water to keep my milk supply up, when stuck in traffic in NYC just to realize we were not going anywhere fast and I so did not end up jumping out of the car and going potty off the side of the freeway in NYC...nope not me.:)

Megan said...

Totally crackin up here!

Pony tail is too cute!

I don't think I'd have the guts to NOT pee in an empty cup or diapers out of desperation! lol

I am back to posting my Not Me Monday posts, and I can see I missed alot while I was away.
You always crack me up. Love your kids' antics.

You always have such good "not me" posts!!! Thanks for admitting more than we may have the guts to!

So very glad you and Stellan are home. I had never heard of RSV until I started working on a Peds floor at the hospital 4 years ago. I had no idea how awful it can be. Thank the Lord for returning health!!!

Is it totally a coincidence that you currently have 2009 followers?!?!?

I love that you admitted to using a take out cup to pee in, and a diaper too.

You are a brave lady, not many would be so brave to admit such behavior.

Feel better soon! When Lily got RSV (while she was getting the RSV shot to avoid contracting RSV), the whole family (except me because apparently somebody has to clean up all the poop and puke) got the stomach flu at the same time. It actually started with Leah who got a really nasty pneumonia/RSV type bug. Just as she started getting over it, everyone else in the house (including 2 homecare nurses) got the stomach flu. While Lily still had the stomach flu, she also ended up with RSV. Several nurses at the hospital insisted she had rotovirus too, but that came back negative (I never thought she had rotovirus). Just as she started getting back to normal with everything, she got the stomach flu again! It was awful stuff!

I hope you're feeling more like yourself soon! Love the NMM, as always!! Take care!

That is hilarious....The only Not Me Monday thingy I have is that I did NOT go BIG grocery shopping on Saturday morning(talking $300 dollars grocery shopping) only to get home and NOT cook a huge dinner the whole weekend because I was NOT so overwhelmed with all the food in the house that we ate fast food...Hmmmmm....wondering if that even makes sense...LOL

About a month ago I was driving home, and had to pee sooooo very bad, I didn't see how I could make it.

I saw the Wendy's cup on the floor, and decided that was my salvation...except I couldn't find a good spot to pull over.

I'm SO glad to hear it can be done!

Jennifer said...

I am happy to finally be joining in on the fun!

I have peed and my kids have in subway cups, mcdonalds cups, chic-fil-a... were really not picky- Just a few weeks ago we were out of cups in the car so I did the diaper thing for the 2 year old. Don't knock it til you've tried it! In my mind it beats the heck out of nasty public bathrooms while on the road. I have only had to do it once while camping, but the kids quite often.

Staci said...

So sorry to here that you are feeling bad. At least your body waited to get sick until after Stellan was out of the hospital. Nothing like carting for a sick baby when you feel yucky too. Thanks for the Not Me's this week. I really did not have anything to get off my chest :) Happy 2009.

**Between you and me, I am always so stoked to hear you be so fearless on your posts on Monday. I keep telling myself that one day, one of these days, I just might take the plunge. I guess I have way too many things that would be applicable during the week that it sends a huge surge of fear down my spine to actually type it out and have the world read. You go girl and saying a prayer that your flu is gone, gone, gone, right away!!

Ok your Subway cup incidnet not only cracked me up but brought back memories! We took 2 vans of highschool kids to Knoxville for a weeklong retreat of sorts from Colorado. On the way we had the vans seperated into boys and girls. Their choice. Anyway we were in the lead van with all of the boys when we hear on or walkie talkie what in the world are the boys throwing out the door??? OMG they are tossing out PEE!!! I turned around and the boys cracked up!! They had been urinating in slurpee cups the entire trip and throwing it out the door. So of course on the way home home the girls just had to try it! Saved us stopping and we have some great memories on that trip but maybe none as memorable as the Slurpee cups!!

I'm just going to leave you a list right here. I didn't:
-Let all 5 of my kids sleep in their clothes last night.
-Feed several of my kids Saltine crackers for breakfast.
-Spend a good portion of the morning returning emails and putzing around on facebook, when I have LOTS of preparation to do for 5 classes that I teach tomorrow AM (at our homeschool group).

Yeah, I totally did. :)

Sassy Britches said...

I am DYING laughing at the urinating in the cup! Please tell me you didn't do that while driving; because if that's so, you are my hero!

Oh my gosh, I was so LOL. I am glad I have never had to do any of those things. I still wonder why the Lord saw fit to give men such large bladders that they don't see the need to stop for eternity.

Peeing in a Subway cup? That's so much better than wetting your pants in the dairy section of the grocery store, which I have never done, by the way.

mama said...

OK this is my first time posting. Whew, wiping the sweat off my brow. OK here goes!

I do NOT have three rolls of Christmas wrapping paper still sitting beside my bed, instead of underneath in the plastic wrapping paper container.

I did NOT forget to clean the bathroom this week. Again.

I was NOT up twice with the baby last night. . . and I was NOT up with her for several hours the night before . . . and the night before. . . and I am NOT hoping that these coughing fits will stop because I really do enjoy changing vomited-upon sheets at 3 a.m. (NOT!)

I did NOT forget to clean up from school last year, so that I'm wondering where we left off. Nope, not me! I cleaned up and organized and left the books and materials in just the right way so as to be able to pick right back up again today without much thought.

I did NOT get into the habit of sitting at the computer for several hours each day, checking my Google reader and Facebook and Myspace to see what's new with friends and loved ones. And email. . . "anything new? anything new? anything new?"

And I have NOT run out of time for this morning. So . . . here's to a good day for all!

I pulled my daughters hair up like small fry's for well over a year, actually until it was long enought to get pulled up in a real ponytail because I was NOT cutting her bangs, because it is really hard to grow out little kids bangs!!

Keep pulling it up, she looks cute!!!

Though I have never done the cup thing, I have done the diaper thing! Desperate times call for desperate measures! We do what we've gotta do, right?!

I put up another Not Me because my husband was kinda upset when his "not me" didn't make the blog. I told him since I didn't do it, it would have been a "not you" but he didnt get it so I posted one for him. So I put his in my regular post. Just thought you'd like to know how your Not Me's have changed our country. My husband is a muscle building, motorcycle riding, sports addicted cop...and he wanted a Not Me :o)

So, if I didn't already KNOW that we were kindred spirits, this post would have clenched it!!!

I am admitting here that, I too have peed in a Subway cup!!! It was just last October when I was pregnant with Greer. I was babysitting my niece in a hotel room, and she was asleep in the bathroom in her pack n play. I did NOT want to risk waking her and wouldn't dare leave her alone, so......

Love Ya friend!!

P.S. I'm sad Mr. Linky only allows 2 columns :(. You would enjoy my Not Me's! It was sort of a tribute to you this time! Get well soon!!!
