You guys are as cute as a basket full of kittens sticker by Lisa Frank. Thanking me for the opportunity to donate to three worthy causes with our Rebel Without For A Cause Raffle-Way!?!?! Really, you're too cute. But thanking me!?
Au contraire, my sweet friends. Thank you!!!
Um, hello. Y'all know how to put your wolverine-esque qualities to some dang good use, don't you!?! Look at the money we're raising!! And one of you peeps who donated is actually going to get the MckRebel Prize Package in their hot little hands and I just can't wait to see who it is!! Only 12 more days to enter the Raffle-Way!!
I have heard from all three organizations we are supporting in this endeavor and they all said they wet their pants when they read my blog! Okay, none of them actually said that. Whatever, semantics. But I think it's safe to say they are pretty pumped.
And, while I have you, a few more thoughts about the Rebel Without For A Cause Raffle-Way:
Don't have a blog, but still want to enter the drawing for the Suzanne Myers necklace? Feel free to grab the code for the Rebel Without For A Cause button and post it on your Xanga, MySpace or Facebook. (In all honestly, I haven't the foggiest idea what Xanga is, but I like to sound like I have my finger on the pulse...) Then, comment on the Rebel Without For A Cause Raffle-Way post and let us know you did, and you'll be entered!
Some of you have added the ChipIn button to your blogs. Great! Remember, the only way to get people to link back here is to link to my blog directly, or add the Rebel Without For A Cause Raffle-Way button, though (the one that has the camera icon with the blue lettering), so be sure to grab that one to be entered in the necklace drawing.
Also, consider a Raffle-Way ticket as a Christmas gift for those hard-to-shop-for people on your Christmas lists. Does Grandma really need another sweater!? How about donating to charity in her honor (and getting the chance to win yourself the MckRebel Prize Package in the process)? If you would like to buy a Raffle-Way ticket to use as a Christmas present in someone's honor, please email me and I will send you back a not-very-official receipt that you can give away, showing you donated on your loved one's behalf. And then maybe you will win a Canon Rebel XSi and some mad loot. Win-win, huh?
To wrap this part up--seriously--you guys, aside from my very own family, you all are purt near the best Christmas present this MckMama could ask for!!!
---------------------------------------------------
Moving on now, I've got a question I've been dying to ask you:
Do you ever get tired of all the noise and needs in your house? Do you ever just want your kids to be quiet? To give you a moment's peace? To quit yanking on your pants leg, asking for milk? Do you ever just want the Lego-throwing, bottle demanding, whiny voicing, snack requesting and belly aching to stop for just ten cotton picking minutes!?
Do you ever just drive around with your kids strapped in their carseats, their headphones on, watching some semi-educational DVD about a cartoon frog that teaches kids about letters, and then just drive around a little longer than you actually need to, just so your kids get completely zoned out and leave you the heck alone for ten cotton picking minutes!?
Well?
Do you?
Yeah, me neither. I was just wondering.

You are so funny. And no, not me either. Never!
Oh my gosh, YES. It's like the din in my house is a chorus of "maaamaaa" all. day. long.
They'll be grown some day and we'll be missing it, right?
I've been known to stand on the middle of the dining room table and yell, "Stop touching me!" to a 2 and 4 year old. It was a very mature moment for me!
your kids are just too cute...so are you for that matter! i posted this morning on the rebel post but forgot to leave my info...you know, just in case you pick me!! (please do!! haha). Its an awesome cause and I was more than happy to be a part of something so beneficial!
rachelisabel@hotmail.com
Have a Merry Christmas...not happy holidays, because lets face it, that could mean any time..it's Christmas people!! so let's shout it! Merry Christmas!!!
Vacant stare, slack jaw, earphones on his cheeks (rather than ears), yeah, McNuggie's in the "zone".
Really?! That actually works?! You have given me yet antoher reason to go out and by a DVD player for my car - not that I would put my kids in the car just to keep them still and quiet...I wouldn't do that - nor would I probably put them in the car and just sit in my driveway...
Only ten minutes?! I think I've found myself begging for at least 15 (though I would secretly settle for five.)
Love the giveaway! Can't wait to enter.
Mckmama-
Sorry to bug you, but I donated money around 3am this morning thru the chip in. I have not rec'd the raffle numbers email yet, nor can I update the chipin widget to see how much has been donated thus far. Please email me!

That picture is just about the cutest thing I have seen all day. Well, except for my own, pants pulling on, mess making, dvr jamming, pen on couch writting, drink needing, loves of my life. And yes I included the Mister in their somewhere.
Love the raffle-way. Have a blessed night.
I'd NEVER do such a thing!! ;) And especially not when I'm being a "single" parent for several days! Showin' some respect. Don't know how they DO it!
All I'm sayin' is, "Thank the good Lord Daddy is on his way HOME!!" ;)
Thanks again for keepin' it real!!
Okay your Lisa Frank reference made me smile, we must have grown up in the same decade.
I love it! Whatever it takes, we need to have a break at some point in the day.
Love the Carhart.
Wait a minute - this is NOT "Not Me" Monday!!!!
I used to just tell my son that I changed my name and that I wouldn't answer him if he called me Momma anymore that day! Hey - who said that - - NOT ME!!
And you think just asking for milk is bad . . . got ya on that one. My son went to a very very southern day care for a short time. He came home one day asking for a glass of me-il-k . . hard to spell but it had three distinct syllables! We moved him very quickly to one that spoke American!
Happy Wednesday!
Grannie in Florida
You are too funny! But I'm sure you're joking because I have NO idea what you are talking about!;)
I'm so happy to be pregnant with our fifth, but sometimes I think, yeah, more crying, that's what we need around here!
Girl, exactly one hour ago, I sat down and told my children to simply "Stop talking." Just 10 cotton pickin' minutes! That's all I need! Good to know, I'm not alone! Unfortunately my kids won't keep the headphones on in the car so I have to choose....children jabbering or Alvin and the Chipmunks for the 1,485th time.
Oh yeah...that might have been me...a long time ago...but since it was a long time ago, there were no headsets or DVD,s...nah, I was happy for the quiet that came when they fell asleep!
Had one of THOSE days today as a matter of fact. Your picture of Nugget could be of my one year old!!
OH BY THE WAY.........I am not tech savvy at all, but wanted to tell you my NOT ME MOMENT......
at the McPlayground the other day, trying to cope with four kids, I forgot that the wipes were NOT in the diaper bag. Therefore, when said one year old had MAJOR poop issues, i most certainly DID NOT do the only thing possible in a bathroom with air hand dryers, no paper towels, and lousy toilet paper....I DID NOT SPIT ON HIS BUM TO CLEAN THE POOP OFF!!
Angie
BY the way, Anonymous is the only way I know to post comments. I said I'm tech-no NOT.
I am generally a very quiet person...my husband is very loud and has passed on the "loud" gene to all of my boys...sometimes my ears just ache by the end of the day....I don't know what you are talking about 10 minutes...I almost drove to another STATE one time just to have a couple of hours of peace while the boys watched DVD's and slept in the back...hey a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do....to get some peace and quiet!
Absolutely hysterical.
I have tried reasoning even raising my voice to a one year old that I needed quiet... I am sure he though I needed something more than that, he just looked at me and laughed.
Love being mom!
yes!!!!!!!! whoever came up with "silence is golden" is a genius!
that's why i had so much fun shopping ALONE on black friday morning. who cares about only getting 2 hours of sleep and having to stand out in the cold. there were no kids yelling, crying, whining, etc!
Um, just wait until they are teenagers-you ain't seen NOTHIN' yet! :) Especially with Small Fry! Not that I would know or anything.....
Earplugs. It's all about the earplugs. You can hear yourself think and only hear the "important" shrieks.
I so had one of those days today! The boys were arguing from the time they get up to the time they go to bed! Oh & the screeching! AHHHH!!!!!!! This too shall pass....right....
On the other hand, my youngest used to stick his fingers in his ears and at the top of his lungs scream "Shut yo mou-fes." So perhaps he got sick of my rantings as well.
Yah, you got Nuggey in La-La Land there. Nice place to vacation.
I try to remind myself that I will miss it in 15 years!!!
And a quick question...my blog is supported by wordpress, which doesn't allow the type of link you have with your Rebel raffle. I did link to your blog and post and all that in my blog post, but can't put it in my sidebar per wordpress rules. Could I still be considered for the necklace? Either way, I am so thrilled you are doing this and hope I am bringing more $$ your way!!!!
SO AWESOME I ENTER YOUR REBEL FOR A CAUSE I'M SO EXCITED FOR THE MONEY THAT IS BEING RAAISED GOD BLESS YOU FOR HELPING AND USING YOUR CONNECTIONS FOR THIS GREAT CAUSE. I SPREAD THE WORD AS WELL FOR YOU ALL. HAVE A BLESSED NIGHT LOVE MICHELLE CIRCLE OF LIFE.
I DID A NICE PIECE ON MY BLOG FOR YA, AND DID THE LINKYSD AS WELL SO PROUD OF ME. I PAT MYSELF ON THE BACK. LOL KIDDING . GO GOD AND GO MCK MAMA.
Oh, yes. I feel your pain. Petty arguments. I'm tired of petty arguments. "My favorite color's blue. NO IT'S NOT. Yes it is. NO IT'S NOT. Yes it is." I may or may not be heard telling the boys in this house to stop talking until breakfast/lunch/dinner are over...I feel your pain!
Oh my gosh... this is how I feel every day with my 4 kids within 5 years.... I have had many car rides just for my sanity.... we moms need an escape.... that is why I turn up worship music loud in morning while getting ready so I don't have to hear their needs and now their fighting....
I actually refused to answer to "Mommy" today. I was tired of hearing it over and over and over. I told her my name wasn't mommy today and she couldn't talk to me. Nice huh?? Not one of my finer parenting moments. It only lasted about a minute anyway then it was right back to "mommy, mommy, mommy".
I find that Yo Gabba Gabba works wonders to get a few minutes of quiet. My husband despises that show and told me that DD couldn't watch it. I told him when he was home 24/7 with her then he could dictate what she watches. Ha!
i love that picture.. :)
well, i actually don't have kids- so i can't exactly relate, but I have a feeling I did that to my mom a while back, or maybe still do. :)
Mine are older now...and LOUDER!!! Sometimes I banish them outside to our yard and DEMAND that they find something to do....if they can not think of something on their own I will gladly hand over a rake and let them have at our yard full of fall leaves.
Once I have had at least 30 minutes free of "MOM....can I?????" I gladly deliver(as in they are still not allowed into the house) a lovely snack tray filled with wonderful yummy treats and drinks.
On rainy days, or freezing ones I am all for a movie marathan...JUST BE QUIET!!!!
Ha! No, my house with no children or husband is where my friends drive to get AWAY from their husbands and children and find peace and quiet. My house is the no-stress-zone filled with no expectation or demands.
We order food, watch tv and pretend calories don't exist. Wanna come? :)
(BTW... I've given up hope; my raffle number is 8. No way random generator is going that low. I've decided to just stick with envy and be glad I donated.) :)
I can't relate in the least.....lol!
I've given up on trying to get them to be quiet. I resort to going into my laundry room and sitting down on my dog's bed behind a closed door equipped with a child safety lock for my ten (well, maybe 2) cotton-pickin' minutes.
Then I'm ready to squoosh them up all over again. :)
Courtney in Indiana
P.S. I'm in the running to win a Canon Digital SLR on this website. Vote for "I Give Up!" (Me in the pumpkin patch with my not-so-happy son). :) THANKS!
Ayup! right there with you sister--except, I hate to break this to you, but it actually gets harder to pull this off as they age.. these aren't even my own flesh and blood kids.. they don't even live with me 100% of the time... good grief! I probably need counseling or something... or they will... I'm not sure who's going to win just yet... 1 in particular, who is 10, soon to be 11, going on 50, is here with me A LOT and my goodness gracious, can this child talk a blue streak... At the end of our days/evenings/nights of all talk all the time face to face radio jam... I often go into my bedroom and scream into my pillow, "enough already, I just need a freaking moment of peace... and no I don't know why.... why... why... I haven't got a clue.. wwwwwwhhhyyyyyyyyyy"
you crack me up! love Mcknugget's Carhart jacket :] he is too cute.
I posted the Rebel For a Cause button on my Myspace -and- blog for the Suzanne Myers necklace!
I also donated through Paypal this afternoon, but haven't received my raffle ticket number yet. I'm sure you're swamped with entries, so I might need to wait longer, but I thought I'd just mention it!
I have recently found your blog and have been enjoying it thoroughly. You seem to be such a concientious and loving mom so I am sure you are just not aware of the dangers of having a 2 year old in a belt positioning booster....assuming that he is usually buckled up for driving like he is in the picture. If you would like some more information about it feel free to check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2LFo8vVi04&NR, and http://www.kyledavidmiller.org/; these links can at least put you in the right direction in making an informed decision. Anyway, I don't mean to offend, only educate about something that is near and dear to my heart.
lolollo
I once told my 5 year old that if he would not say one more word until we got to the store we were going to, that i would buy him a bag of m&m's. (And to think I set him up with speech therapy cuz he was such a late talker!!)
I have to be honest and say I miss your blog, the way it used to be, before you got all famous and everything. When you used to only dream about being "hit" as often Pioneer Woman" was. When you'd reply back in the comments section (way before you'd get like 400 comments every time!) Back when you had comment nazi's and stuff! And told more stories about your kids... okay, enuf whining, I still love you and your blog. But howsabout some more of your old fashioned stories about the funny things Big Mac would say and stuff.
how cute is your little muffin and his carhart jacket???
LOVES it!
wishihg you a few extra quiet moments this week.. :)
I was beginning to wonder if you EVER had those moments-you know-the kind you did not describe in your post because it did not happen to you!
I only have one kid, and yet there are times... but they are QUICK times. Because he's 8, and I'm 48, and Dad is 59, and time flies. And I know that SOMEDAY.... someday.. I'll wish it weren't so darn quiet, and I'll long for a touch, or a sticky kiss, and I'll have all the solitude my heart could desire and then a ton more. So, for now... I'll take the chaos that even ONE kid can bring, and I'll try my very, very best to savor every, single moment. Most. of. the. time.
Totally would never load them into the car just so I could sit down & relax!!! hahaha....but we don't have the dvd player so it's look out the window kinda stuff for us :) and then sometimes the questions start....'how do houses get stuck to the concrete?' and I sigh!
Carhartt.
Squishy cheeks.
A good cause.
(No goat, but you know, there are definitely worthy exceptions.)
Where have I been the past 24 hours? Sheesh, woman, look what you've started! I need to get in on this cause...
Millions of Xs and Os...
L
Unfortunately I find myself raising my voice to be heard over the din as I near the meltdown state, and that's just from two kids (one of which apparently doesn't need speech therapy any more!!!). Yeah, I have to lay down the law at times and demand silence. My mother can't figure out why I don't like to have the radio on at home when the kids are in school. I'm just trying to store up some sanity so I have a reserve come dinnertime and bedtime!
Thanks for the very enjoyable blog and such wonderful charitable opportunities!
As one adjusting to an empty nest after 26 years of having some of my four children under foot, it brings back sweet memories. The "baby" turned 19 this weekend and having 9 college kids in my house filling it with laughter and joking was music to my ears. I am fortunate that I have a good husband to share my life, but I do miss those crazy days. My four would feel the need to tap me over and over to get my attention. One night I remember telling my husband I felt they were chickens and I was being pecked to death! But now... the silence is deafening!
We got engaged on December 13th back in 1980 so I will try the Raffle-way on 12/13. I do not believe in luck, but it is a special number to me. I wish I could afford $130 ... but three in college! The baby has just gone crazy about Photography - so it would be cool to surprise him with the camera he pines after!
God Bless you!
Ummmm FOR SURE! Oh yeah....I have definitely been known to stick my kids in the car and just ride.....and ride.....and ride...eat some lunch....and ride some more!!
Rubbish!! I for one am wiling to admit up front and centre that at any random time during the day any one of the four children OR husband can be driving me friggin' batty!!!!!
{it could be me....hormones...trying to do too much, standards too high....but I like to think it's just them!!}
haha....and we are about to add two more to the insanity!!!
I am MAD {very happy but mad none-the-less}
:):)
so funny!
Been there, done that, and it doesn't go away when they get bigger.
This post made me smile. I love reading about your more "human" side; the one where your house and your kids are not always picture perfect. It reminds me of the many commalities that mothers all share. Thank you for this.
PS: Your update to your profile in the sidebar is great...both the photo and the description.
-Francesca
Sigh...yes too much noise. Now that I am working part time outside the home, Husband has been taking over. Sometime I come home and he talks about all he had to do and I want to just look at him and say "REAAALLLLLYY?!"
I mean c'mon. Welcome to Motherhood.
CountryMom (Suzanne)
Uhhh - yeah certainly not. I would know nothing about niose or the desperate-I-think-I-am-this-close-to-losing-my-sanity-forever need to have one second of quiet. Nothing.
*Smile*
My kids are almost grown but when they were young and I would get that feeling of "If I hear 'Mom' one more time...." I would tell them to start calling me Fred. They would think it was funny, we would laugh and it would relieve some of my tension. As a previous comment said, be careful what you wish for...they grow up and then it is entirely too quiet around the house!
Well of course I never do that....even when I have my own set of headphones on to drown out the noise. I also never fantasize about jumping on the back of someone's Harley and disappearing for a few days ;o)
Cindy
We HAVE driven around longer than necessary, so our kids will get a longer nap. And, there are numerous times throughout the day when I need a break.
My oldest dd and I were talking about her tendency to get frustrated and lose her temper (it's BAD). I asked her if I shout at her when I get angry, and she replied "No." So I asked her what I do when I'm upset, and she said very matter-of-factly, "You go to the laundry room."
What better way to get alone time than to go to the laundry room and stain treat the mountainous piles of clothing!
I have also been known to lock myself in the bathroom with a book for 10 minutes.
We all do what's necessary to maintain some semblance of sanity!
I'll just pretend like I didn't take the long way home yesterday in hopes that my almost 3-year old would fall asleep. He didn't like that idea...and no, it didn't work. Dang it. :)
You make me laugh, and I have my fingers crossed, b/c an Xsi was on our Christmas list before posted the Raffle! :)
No way...I never just want to sit on the couch without a child hanging, laying or sitting on me! :)
Quiet...WHAT'S THAT? :)
I had to leave a comment on this one. I know it's good and buried here!! *wink*
We are going through the various checks for the past month to make sure we don't have Tuberculosis. The last of the checks will begin tomorrow at 6 am. It has been taxing to say the least. We have had throat infections twice. My cleaning lady has been really difficult and last week Thursday I finally let her go vowing I would never employ someone again. Being sick and pregnant is exhausting!!
My children don't go to day-care and I've not had a break from them in 3 weeks...not even "ten minutes". I'm really struggling here. Today God has given me a break my eldest (2yrs old) is still sleeping and it's been three hours and my youngest (11 mths old) has been asleep for about 20 min. So I guess I just got my 10 min break and I should be smiling.... *wink* *wink*
i have NEVER EVER done anything like this. i also have never taken a mommy time out to get a moment of silence!
ohmagosh! baby carhartt! *dies at how cute that is*
Holy smokes- that was waytoofunny!
Love it.
Keep me laughing- I need it. The tummy bug has hit hard.
Oh man! My little guy is only 1 and I do that, I know I'll be doing more and more mindless driving around when I have more than one!
Oh yes! Sometimes I think the noise wil never stop and it feels as though my ears will explode when I yell "Please Dear Jesus have Mercy"! The kids collapse in giggles on the floor and repeat me and then.. the moment has passed.
Ahem of course I kid, Oh I kid...
I love that it's not "Not Me Monday" but you are still being brutally honest! I don't have kids yet but I'm sure when I do I'll be circling the block a few times as well! (:
I can't believe how much you have already raised. That is so amazing! I will be entering later today!
P.S. Have you gotten the gift I sent the MSC?
How precious that McKnugget has the headphone part on his cheeks...too cute!
I am amazed at how much has been raised for this AWESOME cause!
Oh, for the love of all things good and holy, YES!!!! I have a short route home....and a long route home. The long one gets taken way more than the short one. But it keeps me from screaming "CAN YOU PLEASE JUST BE QUIET FOR ONE MOMENT"!
Way too cute! My favorite quiet time is setting a timer and requiring each of my boys to grab a library book and look at the pictures (or my oldest can read) for 10 minutes without moving from their assigned spot. It doesn't always work, but they are usually pretty good about it.
And don't you love the Carharts?? Those are the only coats my boys will wear!
Nancy
Oh, just this morning I very grumpily told my daughter that I wished she had some idea how sick I was of trying to keep everyone in this family happy...honestly, it was the way I felt right at that moment, but having to go back and apologize for those times when my mouth is in gear and shouldn't be is never fun.
I can't imagine how life is at your house - bless you, bless you and bless you some more!
Every Mama needs a break for at least 10 minutes every day! In all honesty, we I have my neice I sometimes too need some peace and quite! What a handsome picture of Mck Nugget!
TOO FUNNY!! That is a hilarious picture of him totally zoned out.
Hi
Did you get too many emails? (is that why the "wanna tell me something" link is gone?
I love reading your blog and with four kids of my own, I totally can relate to needing some Peace and Quiet!
Also, I hope I don't offend you but I wanted to comment on the fact that it looks like your little guy is in a seatbelt (Maybe a booster?). I'm a carseat tech and I think your little guy is a bit young for a seatbelt or even a booster seat at this point. We really recommend that children stay in a 5 point harness until they are at least 4 and we really like to see them in a harness until they hit 5. My own son didn't go into a booster until he was six and my 5 year old is still in a 5 point harness. Heck, my two year old is still rear facing (which is WAY safer than forward facing). Here is a really good website that goes over carseat stuff: www.cpsafety.com
I hope that helps you keep your little guy really safe in the car:-)
I have to laugh at that because we have the exact same headphones in our van and I've been guilty of it a time or two.
Oh my gosh, he has a little carhart jacket! :) so cute.
-Ashlee
P and Q (peace and quiet) in this house is non-existent.. You are not alone... I even held a 'competition' this morning to see if we could go ten minutes without anyone talking! (Just to get a drink of my coffee and wake up you know?) Well, it lasted all of three minutes and the fighting/whining/demanding/touching started all over... I know I'll miss it, but there are days I think I should wear ear plugs... :)
maybe you didnt realize... its not Not Me! Monday :-) totally captivated the zoned out look! too bad my son HATES his car seat... maybe there is hope come the time he is 18 months as thats when baby # 2 will join our family! have a blessed day mama
Well sounds about perfect except we have moved on to the 'Word Factory'. And I most certainly do not have 2 DVD's so that my 8 month old can watch it as well to keep him quite in the car. But not as nice as yours I have to hear it as well...no headphones here. The headphones that come with the SUV are for the SUV's DVD and we have the watch the portable one until the littlest one turns around. Peace and Quiet...what is that? :)
Too funny, that has to be on your next Not Me Monday. LOL I put the fundraiser button on my blog as well, but I'm not worried about the prize. Just trying to help out any way I can.
Millie and Colin-HLHS
Um, yeah. I'm so with you there... I truly think my children believe their middle names are "BeQuiet" "ShushWillya" and "HushUpAlready"
:)Susan
OK, I added your link to my Facebook. Thanks for including Facebook - I really like that necklace! How will you check it? Are you on Facebook? If you need my raffle numbers they're 166, 167, 168.
Ok, maybe you need to bring your sweet self down here to Tennessee if you are gonna insist on using phrases like "cotton pickin"...:-)
I can just hear our theme song playing now..."Hungry Like the Wolf"...come on, you know you wanna sing it...ok, so I'm not just corny at night...there, now you know!
You keep getting mentioned on my blog...guess it's cause your so FABULOUS and all..fabulous mom, fabulous wifey, fabulous photographer, fabulous giver"er"...you get the picture...yep that may just be why I can't stop talking about you!
BTW (can I use "text code" in my comments?) I am thrilled to tell you that I live smack dab right next to one of your little businesses you are advertising...KiKi and LeLe...or is is LeLe and KiKi? Anyhoo, I noticed in her blog that she kept mentioning craft fairs in Tn...so what did I do? I asked her where she was from of course! I have corresponded with her and will be purchasing at least 3 pieces from her in honor of Mr. Man (Stellan in case you were wonderin)...so thanks for all the "suh-weet" :-) hookups!
So Funny...hahahahahaha!!!!
Too funny! And, FYI, my kids are 16, 18, 20, & 22. When they were tiny-er, I finally had to resort to quoting (badly) "Ghostbusters" when I had had enough: "There is no Mommy, only Zuul." Of course, that just made them call me Zuul. Sigh.
Oh yeah, not me either! :) And I never pretend I need tampons because that is the one thing my husband won't offer to go buy for me & I can go hang out at Walgreen's and read magazines in peace for just a few quiet moments. (Wow, that sounded more pathetic when I said it outloud. Oh well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do for quiet.)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=2402484
I have NEVER EVER done that. EVER. :P Your blog cracks me up! :D
Oh MckMamma - the words from your fingers could have come straight out of my mouth. If it's not the quest for peace and quiet its the quest for one step to be toy free, or maybe just to not be takeing care of someone every other minute. I know that is what the Lord intended in the role of a mother but - even He rested one day. I have been working on the alternate view to create a more joyful heart - the yes my house is noisy but my children have voices and are able to play (UGH...some days it takes a little more effort than others.)
Wishing you some quiet time for each and every Mckfamily member today for even just a few minutes ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
MckMama,
I've never commented before on your blog, but I love it! I found your blog a few weeks ago and spent quite a few hours going back in time to read about your story.
I was so inspired by your faith during your pregnancy with Stellan. I had my first son in September and I have really struggled with fear in trusting God with his life. I've often wondered if I could be like Abraham and praise God even if He was calling me to sacrifice my child. I've wondered if my faith could withstand that kind of sorrow. Your blog reminded me that it would be in those moments that the Lord would meet me. I've been blessed by reading your story.
I've also been so encouraged to read how you and your husband parent your children. I wish you lived closer so we could hang out! Is that weird to say over the internet???
Anyway, I'd love to enter your contest, but we don't have the money to donate. Could you enter me as a non-donation? I'm going to talk to my husband about donating once the holiday season is over. Could you please email me for my address and information?

Thanks again for sponsoring this contest but more importantly, thank you so much for being humble enough to share your journey with all of us. Who knew the internet could provide such a rich form of fellowship?
Oh no peace & quiet here ALL DAY! Last night my hubby was cranky because he can't just get some "peace & quiet." SERIOUSLY????? We have a 1 and 3 year old and a 900 sq ft living space. We can have peace & quiet when are kids are grown, living in dorms and only call for money!
MckMama you rock! What an awesome Raffle. I've posted on my MYSPACE http://www.myspace.com/justalittleladybug and emailed everyone who might buy me a gift that I'd prefer a ticket or two.

You have a very beautiful family. I have greatly enjoyed reading about your family and getting some tips from your photography.
I always wanted my kids to enjoy the scenery from the car and look out the window....then we got the car with the DVD player and there was silence...with an occasional twitter of laughter. It was a miracle! What was I thinking?
The Word Factory is a life saver in our house (and car)...
I think I have the same picture of my 4 year old.
HA!! And I only have ONE sweet boy.
Oh and a husband, 2 dogs and a critically ill, aged mom that we care for.
Sometimes (shhh) I pray for the oxygen making machine to stop whirring and then I think HUH? You idiot! That CAN'T stop. You know what I mean!!
Prayers for a peaceful day, happy content babes and a 10 minutes cotton pickin' break.
I DID enter the drawing!! Need some more pics of the chaos in my house!!

Oh yes I am with ya sista. We dont have dvd in the car but I asked my husband for it last week. He said our 14month old doesn't need it. I wasn't really asking for her ;O)
Just got home from one of those extra-long, drive-around, strapped up and quiet sessions! Glad I am not alone!
I have been known to leave my kids with someone and drive to NOwhere, just to get the silence. Rule number one, take care of yourself.
Oh how I love the car sometimes!! With a 2 year old and a 1 year old life is always quiet and peaceful........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Thanks to MckMama for steering me as I was trying to put a post on her site. GREAT Site! I'll be chipping in for the Rebel when I get home tonight.
Please visit www.GottaHelp.org. It is for a good cause. Also, if you know anyone else who could use a posting on www.GottaHelp.org, please have them contact me.
www.GottaHelp.org was created specifically for a friend of my children. If it can help others I am more than glad to help.
Thanks,
Perry
I sooo needed to hear that!! So I've come to realize that I am not the only mother who feels the need to pump my kids with DVD filled goodness-just to take a bath-IN PEACE!!
Well, I don't have any kids, so I couldn't tell ya if I wanted to, (but I'm only sixteen, so I think that's a good thing.) ;) But I think that's my mom at the top with the first comment on this post and I'm pretty sure I sensed a little sarcasm in her it... I'm not sure how I feel about that... ;)
I have never commented on your blog before, but I've been following your blog for a while through Angie Smith's and I just wanted to let you know, even though I've never met you I can tell you have such a sweet spirit and attitude. I absolutely love your blog and your amazing story!
AND I love your new "raffle-way" not just because you're giving away a camera that I desperately want ;), but also because you're donating the money you receive to such wonderful ministries. I don't usually do raffles and things like this, (because I'm a poor teenager,) but since it's for such an awesome cause, I'm gonna have to participate! =)
This comment is ridiculously too long, but I really wanted to thank you for all the wonderful things you are doing through your blog! your posts always bring a smile to my face! =)
me either. that's why my kids aren't unloading my kitchen cupboards and playing with plastic utensils right now while i spend a few seconds on the computer. i better go- i think i hear something other than pots and pans banging.
This is too funny :D
I love MckNuggets pic!! what a beautiful boy you have, well!! ALL of your babies :D
My hubbie keep reminding me that I uttered the words once, "I am going to go crazy when all my kids are gone because it will be so quiet". Uhhhh what was I thinking--must have been a Midol indused slurr. Oh & I can totally related to the lady that yelled, "quit touching me" as I have threatened to throw a hula-hoop around me and demand that inside the hoola hoop is MY SPACE and they cant come any closer than the ouside of my "hoop zone".
OH yeah!! I have 2 favorite parts to my day. At 9am when my beautiful little 4 yr old grandaughter comes in my door, with hugs and kisses and then again at 6:30 pm when she goes back out it with her Moma to go home. Again with hugs and kisses.
but after about 30 minutes of silence I want her back....its just too quiet around here without her.
With 5 kids and their friends always over, no I never need a quiet moment to myself. Nope. Never... ;)
The kids have 1/2 days all this week and I have gone shopping every night this week so far. Ya know, purely for christmas presents. Certainly not because I want time to myself.
That would be selfish of me, right? :)
Cute pic of Mcknuggy!

Do you ever just want the Lego-throwing, bottle demanding, whiny voicing, snack requesting and belly aching to stop for just ten cotton picking minutes!?
Well, funny you should ask. We were just talking about this sort of thing @ my women's group last night. I don't have a dvd player in the van, so it takes a while for the kids to stop bugging/ whining/ asking. But sometimes you just have to find the humor in it, or go crazy. (Or go crazy, then find humor :D) My dd#1 all summer kept saying, "Mommy, look, soybeans. Mommy, look, corn," etc etc. And you know, living in MN, it's not like we EVER see corn or soybeans.
Now we're into stating the obvious. The older 2. "mommy, are those grapes? Mommy, are those crackers for me" (You mean the ones sitting right in front of you, in your spot at the table? uh, yeah.) So I have started responding (as a form of sarcasm, and to help bring humor to keep my sanity) with crazy answers. No, those aren't grapes, they're elephant shoes. No, those aren't for you, those are for the little man we keep in the closet until you leave the table so he can eat them in secret." Yesterday my daughter (3yo) started answering her bro's Q for me. I probably should be shot for teaching my kids this form of sarcasm. But I died laughing. ANd her funniest answer... "No, not a pbj sandwich. That's a hot pot." How does she even know what a hot pot is?
You make me feel so much better about myself knowing I'm not the only one with these thoughts.
I know the feeling of wanting peace and quiet. It happens frequently around here!
I also noticed it seems McNugget is in a booster and it really isn't safe for him that way until AT LEAST 4 years old AND 40 lbs. It's much safer for him to be harnessed in a 5 pt. harness.
i want to enter the raffle but i don't have a paypal account. do i have to have one? also, i never drive around for a few more minutes of peace and quiet. not me!

I have so much to say about this post.
First, Nuggey's Carhart jacket. So cute! Hubs has been begging me to allow the purchase of one for Lukers. I told him next year, since he already has 2 nice winter coats for this year.
Second, the headphones!! We JUST--as in the day after T'giving--changed out our VHS player in our truck to a DVD player. We were talking about headphones and said, we'll wait until next year. Love that they work for you guys.
And last, do you really have a red stripe in your Esc? Or did you photoshop it in? Quite the pimped out set of wheels if you do. Could I take a peek on Saturday?
Ok, I'll be done.
Tiff
p.s. Happy Early B'day BMac.
WOW! I just popped on to see how the fund raising was going and from $300 when I was on yesterday to almost $8000!!! I think I almost peed my pants when I saw that LOL! That is incredible and it's only the 2nd day!!!
OK I was so excited I meant to say almost 7000 but I'm sure it will be well over 8 by the next time I check in! :) LOL
Where do we go to see how much has been donated?
Ummm, i have banned the kids from wearing the headphones since 4yr old pulled the cover off of one of them. HOWEVER, i do put a semi/non educational video dvd on for them and put my iPod in and TURN. IT. UP. REALLY. REALLY. LOUD so that i can no longer hear THEM. does that count?

What? Are you kidding me? This never happens to me. It doesn't happen to me because I only have one toddler, not 4 babies like you. So it can't happen to me because that would really make no sense. How much noise could one toddler make? (roll eyes!)
I like to hear "normal" stuff like this. Especially because I do only have one toddler so how much can I really complain? A LOT (I'm pregnant!). =)
Now, how long until bedtime?
Oh MckMama you never fail to crack me up!! So cute, and so funny.
I see that several others noticed the seatbelt in the photo as well. It surprises me to see him in the booster so young. I know others have given you websites with info, but how about a blog? Ourlittlefootprints.blogspot.com (I found the link through CFHusband)...this mama is passionate about car seat safety and I have learned a ton from her! She has great videos linked on her sidebar. Her post from Nov. 16th is so helpful about how to keep children safe and warm in the car during the winter. Please check out the sites and let us know what you think!
Oh, and WAY TO GO with rebel for a cause!! You rock!
Whaaat? You need ten cotton picking minutes? And here I thought you were super mama.
Here's a clue.
What on earth did parents do before they invented movies in the car? Seriously. I'm amazed the human race has survived!
Oh, please! Why do you think I insisted on getting the entertainment system in the van in the first place? This exact scenario is what I call my vacation for the day and I try to do it at least every other day. My kids also love just listening to their music with the headphones on while I can enjoy mine at the same time.
I loved Lisa Frank stickers! Do you remember the Speak and Spell or the Speak and Math? Well, I almost died when my mom cleaned out her attic and brought them over for my daughter. They still worked after all these years!
I hope your fundraiser reaches at least $10,000. That would be awesome!
My daughter is a talker. She doesnn't stop, usually I can block it out when I'm driving or something like that. But if I could have run away yesturday I totally would have. The noise just would not stop.
Either she is talking less today or I have more patience....
Don't have a DVD player in my car and don't need one, because my children sit perfectly quiet while reading their children's or tween's Bibles to each other and gently stroking each other's hair....NOT!
We really don't have a DVD player in our car though, so I have a lot of "Let's Play the Quiet Game" for ten cotton pickin minutes.
Ha! Ha! Ha! You have no idea the kind of week I've been having. Well, actually obviously you do! Amanda learned how to say, "Mom!" this week. Not the cute sweet baby "mama" but that loud demanding, repeating, "Mom! Mom! Mom!" "Mom! I'm hungry, Mom! Come play with me! Mom! I just sneezed and now my face is full of mucus!"
That and she's been crying all day and night long because her teeth and thumb hurt and then somebody sewed socks on her p.j.'s so she couldn't suck her sore, infected thumb.
Too bad she still sits rear-facing in the van so she can't see the video screen. That would have made today's bread run much more peaceful!
Well, I had lunch with threeringcircus today and we went to Children's Place. We both thought you should know that they have the cutest stripped sweater (bright) outfit that Stellen "needs" to have. We said, "oh, Mcmama would love this!" So now we are talking about you at Thanksgiving AND at random lunches...don't you feel cool???
Maybe I'm a little stupid with this, but I don't know how to do this. I'd like to promote this for you on facebook, but all I can do is mention your webpage. Or what else am I supposed to do? Where I'm supposed to put this code?
Thanks for help!
Cathrin
HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY BIG MAC. I hope he had a good party at school.
I would like to tell you it will get better soon, but my four are 16, 12, 10 and 7 and I wish I could *still* strap them in and turn on the DVD player to get 10 cotton pickin' minutes of quiet. Now we have moved to "he's touching me" and "she's in MY seat" in the van. At home it is why can't we watch what *I* want to watch. Or really important things like, "mom, what at you doing in the bathroom with the door closed"(I have told them before I am hiding from them) lol All that to say, I feel you, I really do.
Michelle
Not anymore...now I ASK them to take the headphones off while we're in the car...
But when they were little? You bet! Oh my, the noise!
Hey ... if it works ... lol
LORI
You were totally speaking my language on needing the quiet. Yeah me neither in the world in my head, heh.
You MckMama are MckAMAZING!!!!!! You are blessing the lives of so many. And I NEVER, nope, never ever get tired of my kids saying "mooooommmmmmm" in the longest, loudest drawn out voice e-v-e-r!! ;)
Well, MckMama, I'm past the tugging for milk and 'needs' stage. I'm at the stage where they whine about EACH OTHER. "He poked me", "She pinched me", but "He started it..." THESE my frien are the worst annoyingly pitched sounds that my children can make. It drives me insane tot he point that I want to lock myself in a room and never come out!!! Ahhh, but gotta love them despite it. Someday, they'll have kids of their own and I shall laugh. Mwooo ha ha ha ha! {{evil laugh}}
LOL! Thanks for making me feel less guilty about it, too! The really mature thing is when you run in the bathroom and hide for a few minutes, pretending to "go potty," just so you can sit on the closed toilet seat and look at your new People magazine in peace. Not that I am one of those people who reads mindless news about stars and the latest fashion trends that I will never catch up with. Not me! (And it's not even "Not me Monday!")
Oh, thank you so much. Because if you... THE MckMom! drive around so you can have peace, then I don't feel so bad about doing it myself. :) Seriously, today I was in the car just driving the long way home trying to THINK of somewhere I needed to go so I could have some more car time.
HAHA! This cracks me up :) When I weaned our boys from breastfeeding (AKA when they were 2ish and I was only doing it to get them to sleep) my husband would drive them around at bedtime for HOURS to get them to sleep! His secret: Delilah (that sappy, slow song, dedication radio show) and heat:) Works like a charm! By the way...Yowza! look at all the money raised...yeah!:)
It's time to build a word, let's build it, let's build it now. Q...U...I...E...T...QUIET!
(Word World Reference--the cartoon frog for those who don't know). One of my son's favorite shows that I use when I need just a few minutes of quiet. And I only have ONE who is 3 years old!
Holy Guacamole! That number just keeps growing...almost $8,000 as of this comment. Wow.
Also, if you find the secret to stealing seconds of "mom" time, please post and let us know. In the meantime, I know that you will, along with me, praise God for all these small children, even if they do suck the life out of us like over indulgent ticks.
Don't you just love Tad? I remember those days. We still have them now but somehow they are different. Maybe because I am 1/2 deaf or maybe because I am immune to noise, either way it is a bit easier.
years ago when my children were much much younger, my entire family went on a trip out west. at the time my brother was not a father and somehow got stuck in the van with moi and my two lovely daughters ... not sure what he did to deserve that, needless to say about 6 hours of driving through yellowstone was his limit of "mama, mama ... i need, i want, i gotta, etc..." so he says to them (this is the part where i was thinking, he is going to be so sorry he said what he is about to say)"i will pay you a dollar each for every minute you don't talk, you cannot say one word to anybody, not even yourself" HA! what he did not factor into that statement was this; my children, being women in training, knew the value of $$$ so they did what any logical female would've done ... they both went to sleep - for two hours! to this day, he says it is the best 240.00 he has ever spent.
Mama has left the building! Thanks what I tell my 3yo when the whining tidal wave rolls in!
Posted the rebel button on SometimesHeWhispers!
i have posted and linked regarding the raffle, just to inform you. and i have no children of my own (yet), however, i work as a RN on a mother/baby floor... we have mom's who opt to stay an extra night (who are totally fine with totally fine, healthy babies) just to have an extra night of peace....
Minus the headphones, yeah I do that. I thought that was a given when you have MSC???
This time of year I use the "let's go hunting for Ho Ho lights" excuse/dangling carrot. I fill my travel mug to the brim with the sauciest mix of coco and flavoring and we hit the road after dinner, returning home just in time for baths and beddy bye! God is soooo good! :)
oh my gosh... what a wonderful thing to do.. and wow wow wow.. that camera... I have done my duty and I have linked.... wooooohoooooo
